The Announcement of My Candidacy for the Scottsdale School Board
August 4, 2021
Today is the first day of school for many students in Arizona and elsewhere, and I want to take this opportunity to make a personal announcement. I am announcing my candidacy for Scottsdale Unified No.48 Governing Board. I am running for the 2022 general election to fill two seats on the School Board for Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD). Sure, November 2022 is a way off, but many signatures need to be collected, people to meet money to raise, and issues to discuss. The best time to start is now.
For those of you that don’t know, I am a product of the SUSD attending Elementary, Middle School and graduating from Arcadia High School in the district. My wife Renae, Son Andy, and I have had a rocky journey as a family dealing with the frustrations of the district Special Education programs. While I am not a single-issue candidate, so much of what motivates me to serve is the desire to help parents and students in these programs better understand and navigate the system and ensure they receive everything afforded under the law.
To add to my concerns of the Special Education Program is the future of the district. Some forces would love to end public education and make our children profit centers for corporate education conglomerates. I wish I were hyperbolic about this point, but sadly I am not. I am not claiming the public-school systems are perfect, but for-profit schools and their advocates would like to take over public education and leave the instruction to the market forces. We cannot let this happen.
So, with the announcement, I am going to ask for your help:
Contribute– If you are able, please donate to my campaign.
Email – I can keep you up on the issues and where I will be speaking in the future.
Volunteer – If you have time to help collect signatures and other activities, we can contact you as the campaign progresses.
